How To Remove the Soft Top on Your Jeep Wrangler

Steps to removing the soft top on your Jeep Wrangler

Raising and lowering the soft top on your 2-door or 4-door Jeep Wrangler is fairly simple. With the help of an extra pair of hands, you will be enjoying the fresh air and open sky overhead in no time, the way a Jeep is supposed to be driven down the road.

Step 1: Unclip the sun visors and move them to the side. Lift up on the header latches above the windshield frame to release them from the loops.

Step 2: On the outside of the Wrangler, unzip and remove the quarter windows and store them somewhere safe so that they don't get scratched or wrinkled.

Step 3: Remove the rear window from the Wrangler by unzipping the zipper from right side to the left side and store it somewhere safe.

Step 4: Pull down to release the Rear Sail Flaps on the rear corners of the Wrangler and fold them neatly onto the top of the soft top.

Step 5: Walk back to the front seats of your Wrangler and locate the latch pedals above the door jams on each side. Press down to release the side bows.

For 4-door Wranglers only: There is an extra step after releasing the latch pedals. Locate the Sunrider® Links on top of the Wrangler and push down on the latches to release it.

Step 6: Pull the soft top back in an accordion (w) style and tuck in the material neatly.

Steps to putting the soft top back up on your Jeep Wrangler

Step 7: Pull the soft top back up towards the front of the Wrangler. Slide the plastic sleeves over the side bows and push down to lock the top in place.

Step 8: Pull down the Rear Sail Flaps and secure them into the rear window retainers.

Step 9: Line up the rear window with the Swing Gate Bar Brackets and push them into place by pushing in and rotating. Zip it back into place from the left side to the right side.

Step 10: Tuck the swing gate bar retainers into the body of the Wrangler and make sure the rear window is secure.

Step 11: Attach the quarter windows to the Velcro and zip the window back up into place. Tuck in the Door Rail Retainers. Tuck in the Window Body Retainers starting from the back working your way to the front.

Step 12: Close down the header latches over the windshield frame to lock down the top. Clip the sun visors back into place.
