Chrysler 200: The Affordable Luxury Car

April 19th, 2018 by

The Chrysler 200 exemplifies the brand’s ability to create a driving experience that can match up to a six-figure luxury car, at a price that makes it attainable for anyone, coming in at around $21,000 depending on your options and payment plans. You’ve heard that promise before, only to drive off on a ride that feels like a bumper car, but the Chrysler 200 actually does manage to deliver.
The main draw may be that the 2015 200 is built around the Alfa Romeo Giulietta platform. It’s essentially a James Bond car at a working man’s price. It feels a lot more expensive than it is.
Let’s talk specs: the standard 200 delivers 36 miles to the gallon on the highway and 23 in the city, with a 184 horsepower V4 engine. If you’d like a little more oomph in your Chrysler, the 200S model offers 295 horsepower with a V6 engine, and a respectable 19/32 city/highway MPG on front-wheel-drive models, or 18/29 on all-wheel-drive models.
The standard 200 is a cruiser – it’s not exactly built for speed, but it does have enough get-up-and-go to merge through traffic with little trouble. It doesn’t drag like some affordably priced luxury cars do, it’s just built more for relaxing afternoons than for street races. The V6, on the other hand, is not exactly a muscle car, but you will want to ease into the accelerator.
Of course, the real draw of a luxury car is the interior: Details will vary by options and model, but if you want top-of-the-line luxury, the 200C model offers cushy leather upholstery, Auto-dimming interior rear-view, and illuminated door handles, footwells and vanity mirrors, making for a night driving experience we can only describe as “tranquil,” and daytime driving that feels like cruising around in your living room. The 200S is a little leaner, built as much for performance as for comfort, with a leather wrap for the steering wheel and paddle shifters for the sports shift automatic transmission.
If you’ve still got your doubts, come by and take a test drive. You’ve been behind the wheels of cars that don’t deliver on the promise of affordable luxury, but the 2015 Chrysler 200 nails it.
